PurePump is sold by Do Vitamins, a supplement company that is proud to specialize in “ultra-clean” sports nutrition for the ingredient-conscious athletes . They have a business philosophy that centers around being aware of what you put inside your body, promising purity and performance and “no pollutants.”
Marketing Claims Made
Do Vitamins makes the following claims about PurePump:
- Sustained energy without the crash: Most supplements who make this claim use theanine, a nootropic ingredient known to mitigate the side effects of large amounts of anhydrous (artificial) caffeine. However, PurePump has a natural form of caffeine derived from green tea leaves. Since the source is natural, it’s not something that would release too quickly inside your veins, thus giving you a sharp spike in energy and a sharper crash a few minutes later. Instead, the natural green tea caffeine is a slow-release type of caffeine which allows for a more manageable and of course longer-lasting energy boost.
- Strength and endurance: The ingredients for strength and endurance are mainly beta-alanine, creatine, and citrulline. The three ingredients combine for five grams and we think these three alone are good enough to provide justification for this claim.
- Delayed muscle fatigue: This has mostly to do with beta-alanine and its effect on endurance. While the two-gram dosing may seem too small, we have to consider that beta-alanine is part of a bigger blend. Being part of a bigger blend with ingredients that also have decent dosages allow for synergistic benefits especially for reduced fatigue.
- Weight loss benefits: We think this is the hardest claim to prove given the only official weight loss ingredient they have is L-Carnitine, and it’s not as potent as a fat burner as much as it is an energy booster.
What’s in it?
Now, let’s take a closer look at what’s inside a PurePump pre-workout:
- Vitamins and Minerals: PurePump delivers high-quality brands and forms of vitamins and minerals. Notably, they have B6 and B12 as Pyridoxine HCl and Methylcobalamin .
- Beta-Alanine as CarnoSyn: Beta-alanine is a common pre-workout ingredient. It’s known to exhibit performance benefits, but it’s added mostly for its fatigue-reducing properties . Normally, beta-alanine causes a temporary and mildly annoying skin condition called paresthesia – a feeling of itchiness under the skin. CarnoSyn is a brand known to not only offer beta-alanine up to 99% purity and absorption, but also reduce the itchiness to a significant degree.
- L-Citrulline (Kyowa Hakko): Citrulline is known for its muscle pump benefits , giving users the ability to power through lifts and potentially improve their weight lifting numbers.
- Creatine Monohydrate as Creapure: Creatine monohydrate is the most popular form of creatine. It’s the one form with the most number of studies and the exact form that shows benefits for performance and improved muscle recovery which can induce muscle growth . - L-Carnitine L-Tartrate (Carnipure): L-Carnitine is the one ingredient added to help burn fat in PurePump. L-Carnitine works by funneling fatty acids into cells to convert them into energy . Carnipure is a popular brand known for purity. At 500 mg, L-Carnitine is definitely at a decent dosage for an ingredient that’s part of a big blend, but we don’t see it as enough to allow any real fat-burning effect.
- Leucine, Isoleucine, Valine (AjiPure): Leucine, Isoleucine, and Valine are collectively known as Branched Chain Amino Acids or BCAAs . These BCAAs promote muscle growth, and while the combined weight of 1,000 mg is small relative to what’s found in standalone BCAA supplements, we think there is synergy with the anabolic effects of creatine.
- Natural Caffeine (Green Tea Extract): Caffeine is known as an energy booster, but also for its side effects regarding jitters and crashing. However, PurePump added caffeine derived from green tea extract which has a slower release than caffeine anhydrous . The slower release help mitigate the risk of jitters and crashing; it also makes the energy more sustainable.
- Alpha Lipoic Acid (Alipure): Alpha-lipoic acid is a nootropic that functions as a brain antioxidant for long term brain health . PurePump said it’s meant to act as a synergist to B vitamins, but the 100 mg dosage added is really small compared to what other supplements use.

PurePump offers benefits for strength, endurance, and recovery. It has ingredients that are not only from high-quality brands but also have enough dosage to function the way they’re intended to work.
The synergy between creatine and BCAAs, in particular, are well known. The pumps provided by citrulline and arginine should offer a good lifting experience. Beta-alanine and caffeine can work together to maximize the energy you’ll be getting from Pure Pump.
The only benefit we don’t think it will have on its own is L-Carnitine and PurePump’s claim on weight loss.
There are no buffer ingredients to mention and while that means formula purity is at its highest, you might also experience a feeling of a sudden burst of energy on the get-go. So, be sure to not drink or take anything stimulatory before ingesting PurePump.

Like PurePump, Altius has Citrulline Malate, Beta-Alanine, and Creatine – the three ingredients considered staples in the pre-workout world. However, Altius manages to include more than double the total dosage for all three.
- 8,000 mg Citrulline
- 3,200 mg Beta-alanine
- 3,000 mg Creatine.
It also has the much more potent caffeine anhydrous at 325 mg, a dosage equivalent to more than three cups of coffee.
On a per-serving basis, Altius trumps PurePump easily. However, we think Altius’ intensity could alienate the kind of consumer that PurePump is looking to cater to: the beginners and folks who aren’t into strong stimulation.
In the end, it’s a matter of personal preference.
